Power Electronics &
Motor Design
SiCore Research is a lean Ann Arbor, Michigan engineering firm that designs and rapidly prototypes power electronics and electric motors for high-power systems. We take programs from requirements to validated, production-ready hardware, as a project team or a long-term engineering partner.
The Whole Drive System
High-power electrical systems work best when the power electronics, motor, controls, and cooling are designed together. We cover all four, so you can bring us a single subsystem or a complete drive.
Power Electronics Design
High-power inverters and converters built around silicon carbide, from the power stage to the protection circuitry. We design for power density, efficiency, and robustness at 800 V and beyond.
- Traction and servo inverters
- Power export: generator-to-HVDC and grid-forming converters
- Module-less, direct-die SiC power stages
- Gate driver design and short-circuit protection
- Laminated busbars and low-inductance power-loop layout
Electric Motor Design
Motors designed together with the drive that powers them, so the machine, inverter, and controls are optimized as one system rather than matched after the fact.
- Electromagnetic design to torque, speed, and packaging targets
- Motor thermal design and cooling
- Motor and inverter co-design and trade studies
Controls & Firmware
Embedded motor control and inverter firmware that turns hardware into a working drive and connects it to the rest of your system.
- Motor control for servo and traction drives
- EtherCAT, CAN, and Ethernet communications
- Resolver, incremental, and absolute encoder feedback
- Protection, fault handling, and diagnostics
Thermal, EMI & Validation
The engineering that makes high power density survivable and certifiable: heat removal, electromagnetic compatibility, and test.
- Liquid-cooled cold plate and thermal design
- Thermal resistance modeling and budgets
- EMI/EMC filter design and pre-compliance
- Hardware test and validation
Built by Specialists
Silicon Carbide Depth
We work at the device level: gate threshold margins, Miller coupling, parasitic inductance, and thermal paths. Our published research shows how we think.
Proven at High Power
Kiowa, our 800 V SiC inverter, delivers over 100 kW/L and scales from 100 kW to 500 kW and beyond. The same engineering goes into your program.
Lean Team, Fast Hardware
Power electronics, motors, controls, and thermal under one small roof means fewer handoffs and a faster path from spec to working hardware.
Rugged by Design
Designed from first principles for high-shock, high-vibration, mission-critical environments, from race cars to defense platforms.
Concept to Production
Work with us on a single project or as a long-term engineering partner. Either way, the path from requirements to hardware is the same.
Discovery
Share your power, voltage, thermal, and packaging requirements. We respond within 48 hours with an initial read on fit and a proposed path to hardware.
Architecture
Topology, device, thermal, and motor trade studies up front, so the design is right before hardware is built.
Rapid Prototyping
Fast design-build-test loops against your requirements, from first power-up through validation.
Production
Design for manufacture and hand-off to manufacturing partners, with engineering support as your program scales.
Where We Work

Common Questions
What does SiCore Research design?
Power electronics and electric motors for high-power systems: SiC inverters and converters, gate drives, motor control firmware, and the thermal and EMI engineering around them. Our flagship platform, Kiowa, is an 800 V silicon carbide inverter with over 100 kW/L peak power density.
What power and voltage levels do you work at?
Our focus is high-power, high-voltage systems. Kiowa is an 800 V platform that scales from 100 kW to 500 kW and beyond. Tell us your requirements and we'll tell you whether we're a fit.
Do you design electric motors as well as the drive?
Yes. We design motors alongside the power electronics and controls that drive them, so the whole system is optimized together.
Can we start from Kiowa instead of a clean-sheet design?
Yes. Kiowa's scalable architecture and configurable feedback and communication interfaces are built to adapt to different motors, networks, and power levels, which can shorten your path to hardware.
How do engagements work?
We work project-based or as a long-term engineering partner. Every engagement starts with a discovery conversation about your requirements, and we respond to inquiries within 48 hours. Program details are shared under NDA.
Where are you located?
SiCore Research is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Have a Hard Power Problem?
Tell us about your program: power and voltage requirements, thermal constraints, and timeline. We'll respond within 48 hours with a read on fit and a proposed path to hardware.
